Insert H1 tags to Rank in Google!

Insert H1 Tags to rank in Google! That was one of the first pieces of advice I was given by Cam Bailey, a man who works with SEO company Stewart Media. The best I could understand in this process is that Google responds to various strategies that can show the most important basic information of what the content is about. Let me try and explain a little better what I understand and show you simple ways to know if you have H1 tags or not.

The H1 tag in the code behind your content titles that would typically make the font bigger and bolder than the other text. So I would imagine the search engine logic is that if you make a certain line first, bold, and big then you think it is the most important statement in the content. It's fair enough to assume that the H1 tag is the best summary of everything else written in the content.

The important thin is doing this though is to select words in the title that you want to get results in search engines. In my Absolute Legend challenge the titles of the stories all had the following very imprtant characteristics"

  1. The titles were all H1 tags
  2. The content body always started with the key search phrase Absolute Legend
  3. Very significantly the key words Absolute Legend appeared early or first in the content body 
  4. Every time Absolute Legend was written in the body it was bolded

The reason these steps all worked is that it communicated that the words Absolute Legend were very important and what the content was about. It appeared in an H1 tag thus standing out; it was one of the first things said; it was highlighted by bolding; and in the end the content body and the title matched perfectly telling Google that the story is actually about what it says it is.

Now if you aren't sure if your site is using H1 tag code you would not be alone. I had no idea but was taught a very simple way of finding out. Simply open your content on your site in Mozilla Firefox. Click and drag to highlight your content title and right click. Click on "view selection source" and it will show the code of the title.

 If your title is in H1 tags then your will see:

To insert H1 tags in my site I have used the Joomla component SF404. 

I hope this helps in some ways to understand some things in regards to titles and the use of H1 tags.
